“Can I use these blocks?” — The question that started it all

Lee Kyunghyun’s Playtime didn’t begin in a studio.

It began in a kids café. One day, while spending time with their child, the artist found themselves watching children freely running, building, and playing with blocks.

What seemed like a casual moment slowly came together as a single, vivid scene.

Watching children build with blocks wasn’t just play.

Each child was creating their own world— stacking structures, shaping space, making sense of it all in their own way.

To the artist, it felt familiar.

A reflection of how we live— moving toward our own goals, yet ultimately connected within a larger system.

That realization led to the choice of a high-angle perspective. From a distance, you see the whole. Up close, you begin to notice each individual story.

The artist wanted to share that exact point of view.

And then, something unexpected happened.

The bricks on the canvas aren’t painted.

While working on the piece, the artist noticed their child’s blocks nearby and thought, “What if I used these in the artwork?”

With her child’s permission, they began building shapes together— and placed those very forms directly onto the canvas. In that moment, the work became more than a painting.

It became a shared creation. A piece shaped not just by intention, but by time, memory, and connection.

That’s why Playtime isn’t simply a depiction of play.

It was created through play— a process where moments were built, layered, and preserved in physical form.

And now, this moment doesn’t end at appreciation.

Playtime is currently available on YEATU as a private placement investment offering, with fractional participation at a low entry level.

However, the number of units is limited and may close early. Great works often pass us by in an instant.

This time, you have a choice— to let it go, or to take part in it.
